Nic Vandre

Board of Directors

Nicholas “Nic” Vandre is a retired U.S. Army Special Operations leader, national security strategist, entrepreneur, and ecosystem builder who has spent more than two decades bringing people, organizations, and resources together around complex missions.

During a 20-year military career, Nic served within the U.S. Army’s Special Operations community, including the 75th Ranger Regiment and the United States Army Special Operations Command. His career gave him a firsthand understanding of the physical, psychological, and family challenges that can accompany a lifetime of service—and of the need to continually improve the ways our communities care for veterans, first responders, military families, and others living with trauma.

Today, Nic works at the intersection of public service, emerging technology, innovation, and community impact. He advises and builds organizations and public-private ecosystems designed to connect government, academia, industry, philanthropy, and local communities around difficult national and societal challenges.

As Chairman of the Board for Carolinas for Care, Nic is focused on helping the organization build the partnerships, infrastructure, research ecosystem, and community support necessary to responsibly advance innovative mental health solutions throughout North and South Carolina.

He believes progress in mental health care requires bringing together the people who have lived the problem, the clinicians and researchers studying it, the policymakers responsible for protecting the public, and the organizations capable of translating promising research into responsible access.

Nic is particularly passionate about supporting veterans and military families and ensuring that emerging therapies are approached through science, evidence, responsible policy, education, and patient-centered care.

He lives in North Carolina with his family and continues to dedicate his work to building stronger communities and creating pathways for people who have served others to find healing, purpose, and their next mission.
